
BIOGRAPHY
Yi Ping Kat, a Hong Kong pianist, enjoys a diverse musical career as a dedicated piano teacher, a highly sought-after piano collaborator, and a reputable choral conductor. He holds a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance from the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM), and a Fellowship Diploma from the Royal Schools of Music (FRSM).
Upon completion of his undergraduate piano studies with Nancy Loo, Yi Ping was granted an entrance scholarship by the RNCM where he continued his postgraduate piano studies with Colin Stone. During the course, he was selected to work with distinguished pianists including Stephen Hough, Michel Béroff, Nelson Goerner, Philippe Cassard and Professor Shucheng Shi.
Yi Ping has been giving musical performances in different cities, as well as the local concert venues, and on television and radio programmes. He frequently serves as a jury member in piano competitions for young music learners. Previously, he was appointed as one of the Kawai charity ambassadors and performed in fund-raising concerts for Médecins Sans Frontières. Being caring for elder music enthusiasts, he spends regular effort as a conductor of several choirs in enhancing their musical knowledge and experience and preparing them for various musical activities.
Having a wide variety of interests besides music, Yi Ping loves travelling, photography and language learning. In addition to a Japanese minor in his undergraduate studies, he also holds a JLPT N2 certificate. With some substantial influences from both the East and West, he is often invited to provide professional assistance in multicultural research projects at the university.
Yi Ping has been a practical and performance grades examiner of the ABRSM since 2022.
